11 Jul MARINA PARK
STEELS OF HONOR
Covered mostly by a large green carpet; an anteroom that evokes a military style which speaks itself about the courageous battles fought by the Colombian military. The yellow of our wealth, the blue of our sky and seas and the red representing the blood spilled by our patriots to obtain freedom, remain raised in its center.
Out of the colonial and historical stereotypes of the old city and outside its walled cord, it does not detract from its value. Due to its proximity to the iconic historic center of the city, it is part of it. It has its own charm and magic, just like any place in the Corralito de Piedra. Its dimensions make it one of the most spacious places in the city center.
Centuries ago this space worked as a strategic defense place to counteract the attack of pirates who came to plunder the wealth of the city. It also became a garbage dump generated by the residents of the center, but then this barren and sandy land was given by the City of Cartagena to the Naval Base, so that they would take charge of its adaptation and renewal.
This is how it was named Marina Park, in honor of the sailors. There you can find large sculptures such as «the door», «the turtle ship», sculpture dedicated to the veterans of the Colombian Battalion who fought in the confrontation of Korea. There is a huge pool in its center that with its blue background harmonizes the natural environment, pedestrian paths, green areas and fresh, just perfect to relax and chill.
